ECOLOGICAL GEOLOGY

Abstract: The paper considers the features of natural-technical forestry ecological- geological systems that are widespread in Belarus. Despite the fact that these systems occupy significant areas in the territory of the republic, they remain practically unstudied, there is only fragmentary and scattered information about their abiotic and biotic components. On the basis of the taxonomy of the ecological-geological systems of Belarus, which was previously developed by the authors, this paper attempts to compile their general characteristics, as well as to identify and characterize the features of their abiotic (lithotope, hydrotope, edaphotope) and biotic (microbiocenosis, phytocenosis, zoocenosis) components. The identified patterns and features of the forestry EGS of Belarus can be considered as common ones for similar EGS in Russia, which must be taken into account in engineering-environmental surveys and studies.

ENGINEERING GEOLOGY. ENGINEERING-GEOLOGICAL SURVEY

Abstract: We present a slightly abridged and adapted translation of the review paper “Recommendations for the quantitative analysis of landslide risk” by Italian, Spanish, Greek, British, Dutch, and French researchers (Corominas et al., 2014). It was published in 2014 in the peer-reviewed journal “Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment” by the Springer Science+Business Media publishing company. It is an open access article on the ResearchGate website under the CC BY 2.0 license (the previous version of CC BY 3.0 and CC BY 4.0), that allows it to be distributed, translated, adapted, and supplemented, provided that the types of changes are noted and the original source is referred to. In our case, the full reference to the original paper (Corominas et al., 2014) used for the presented translation is given in the end. This paper presents recommended methodologies for the quantitative analysis of landslide hazard, vulnerability and risk at different spatial scales (site-specific, local, regional and national), as well as for the verification and validation of the results. The methodologies described focus on the evaluation of the probabilities of occurrence of different landslide types with certain characteristics. Methods used to determine the spatial distribution of landslide intensity, the characterization of the elements at risk, the assessment of the potential degree of damage and the quantification of the vulnerability of the elements at risk, and those used to perform the quantitative risk analysis are also described. The paper is intended for use by scientists and practicing engineers, geologists and other landslide experts. The translation of the paper was carried out with the support of the PETROMODELING Group of Companies and Aleksey Bershov.

APPENDIX. DISCUSSION OF PROFESSIONALS

Abstract: The current problems and trends in the development of the Russian construction industry were discussed during a round table in Moscow. It was organized by “Simpreal” PJSC. The participants in the discussion were representatives of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a large development company, industry and raw materials enterprises, and specialized associations. They talked about the current challenges in the construction industry, including the consequences of the cancellation of preferential mortgages, the growth of the key rate, the dynamics of consumer demand, and the problems of import substitution. We will briefly tell about all of that in this paper. The materials for the paper were provided by “Simpreal” PJSC.

APPENDIX. DISCUSSION OF PROFESSIONALS

Abstract: In November, the Third All-Russian and International Forum for the Development of Industrial Construction and Design (ICID-2024 – Industrial construction/industrial design forum) was held in Yekaterinburg. The organizers and participants were interested in identifying and correcting systemic errors in the industry, in obtaining governmental support, amending legislation, finding reliable business partners. All the participants’ proposals were included in the forum resolution and sent to the structures involved in lawmaking. After the previous such events, which took place in 2022 and 2023, the law on domestic engineering was introduced, special technical conditions were canceled, and steps were taken to increase the terms and amounts of industrial mortgages. In this paper, we will talk about the strategies of ICID-2024 participants: how they find customers and contractors, how they are going to speed up their work and to save money, and why they are abandoning backup plan (plan B).
