Deep ground penetrating radars: truth and myths and how to save on engineering surveys
Abstract: Perhaps, there are not more controversial, debatable and endlessly debated types of research than geophysical ones. And the work performed with the help of ground penetrating radars (GPR) stands apart among them. Someone conducts them everywhere, and someone considers them pure “shamanism”. We have made one more attempt to understand the corresponding issues with the help of specialists. Nurbulat Amangel’diyevich Duysinaliyev, the general director of “Interrascan” LLC, and his deputy Georgiy Vasil’yevich Bychkov told the editorial staff of the “Geolnfo” journal how to orientate oneself in the Russian market of GPRs, what opportunities these devices provide, how they facilitate the work of engineering surveyors and when they can or cannot be relied upon.
Keywords: engineering surveys; geophysical technologies; georadiolocation; ground penetrating radars (GPR); deep GPR; radio pulses; reflecting media interfaces; radargram; drilling.
